Don Samuels, a former Democratic Minneapolis City Council member, announced his intention to challenge Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

He previously contested Omar in 2022 and narrowly lost. Samuels criticized Omar, labeling her as divisive and highlighting concerns within the Jewish community.

He received endorsements from local officials and opposes defunding the police, while Omar supported it as a “policy demand.” (Trending: Court Hands Down Crucial 2nd Amendment Ruling)

“Our congresswoman has a predilection to divisiveness and conflict,” Samuels told the AP.

Adding, “She has frightened the Jewish community.”

Samuels highlighted that “latent and lurking antisemitic sentiment that always needs discouragement, and always in times of national crisis raises its ugly head.”

“The long tails of the George Floyd and COVID issues continue, with empty storefronts and empty strip malls because people don’t want to invest anymore,” lamented Samuels.

“They don’t think it’s safe,” confessed the politician.

Other candidates in the race include Democrats Sarah Gad and Tim Peterson, as well as Republican Dalia Al-Aqidi.

Both Samuels and Omar did not respond to requests for comment.
