Trump Impeachment Witness Crushed in Primary Shock

Democratic voters in Florida delivered a stunning rejection of establishment favorite Alexander Vindman, choosing far-left state Rep. Angie Nixon instead. The result handed the Senate nomination to a Democratic Socialists of America member who will now face Republican Sen. Ashley Moody.

Nixon raised less than $1 million compared to Vindman’s more than $16 million haul. Despite the enormous financial gap, she secured a decisive victory. Vindman, a key witness in President Trump’s first impeachment, had been recruited by national Democrats hoping to expand the map.

Nixon celebrated by declaring her campaign had beaten “Washington power brokers and their mountains of cash.” She supports Medicare for All, universal child care, and reducing aid to Israel. Vindman largely ignored her during the primary and avoided debates.

In her victory speech, Nixon invited Vindman’s supporters to join her, saying there was “a place for you.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and DSCC Chair Kirsten Gillibrand quickly endorsed her after the loss.

Moody, who easily won the Republican primary, framed the race as a fight against socialism. “We are staring down crazy and the socialists today,” she said. The National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee stated that Florida “will never elect a socialist to the US Senate.”

The outcome represents an embarrassing setback for Democratic leadership and a boost for grassroots progressive forces. The November contest will test whether Florida voters prefer Moody’s law-and-order record or Nixon’s far-left platform.

Vindman’s collapse after heavy spending underscores the limits of establishment money when primary voters demand a more radical alternative.
