Josh Maravich, the son of basketball hall of famer Pete “Pistol” Pete Maravich, died last week at age 42.
While he did not have the stardom of his father, Josh walked onto the basketball team at Louisiana State University (LSU), where his father had also played and had the arena named after him, to fulfill a childhood dream of playing there to make his father proud.
“I wanted to come here for my dad to make him proud,” Josh said. “I knew I wasn’t going to be a star player, but for me being a walk-on was what I always wanted to do.”
Josh appeared in only 13 games for LSU.
His father Pete had been a college star there and held the NCAA scoring record until recent years.
Both Josh and his brother Jaeson had been involved in creating their father’s statue at LSU, depicting him doing one of his behind-the-back passes. No cause of death was provided for Josh.
