Twitter issued a Community Note to the official Senate Republicans account for a misleading Ted Cruz advertisement, as claimed by Senate Republicans.
The Community Notes team provided additional information on the post, labeling it as deceptive.
The “misleading” post involved a donation message that claimed “big tech” would delete Cruz’s message in 11 minutes. However, Cruz’s message has been airing several weeks and it has not been censured.
“This post is misleading,” the fact-check reads. “The message doesn’t violate any of X’s content rules, and if it did, it could not be a promoted post. Besides, there is no way to anticipate when a post will be deleted.”
Also, replies to the undated advertisement from May 16th suggest that the ad is much older than the 11 minutes mentioned by Senate Republicans for its removal.
“Big tech” has allowed this advertisement has been airing for several weeks. The advertisement encourages Twitter users to tap and “unlock the message here.”
Clicking on that link directs you to a donation page with animated text and an intrusive popup box requesting donations.
The message on the donation page involves Ted Cruz highlighting his low poll ratings as a reason to donate to him.
This contradicts the Senate Republicans’ claim that the message would be removed in 11 minutes.
With the new leadership at the RNC, GOP fundraising emails and advertisements have become increasingly desperate.
