A male runner who identifies as female won the girl’s title in the Washington State high school track championships, finishing a full second ahead of the second-place female runner.

Veronica Garcia won with a time of 55.75 seconds compared to 56.75 seconds for the girl who came in second.

Washington’s policy allows students to participate in sports based on their gender identity without any medical criteria, prompting criticism from those advocating for female sports.

Similar situations occurred in Oregon as well, with advocates arguing it is unfair to allow biological males to compete against females.

In some cases, female athletes have protested being forced to compete against biological males and faced retaliation from schools.
