Stadler sets a Guinness World Record with their FLIRT H2 train traveling over 1,700 miles without refueling, using hydrogen fuel cells and tanks alongside a battery system.
The test took place in the US, lasting 46 hours and demonstrating the train’s capability for continuous operation without refueling.
Stadler’s innovative solutions integrated fuel cells and hydrogen storage into the FLIRT train design, previously tested in Switzerland.
After finalizing the necessary preparations, Stadler invited the Guiness World Record adjudicators to observe the record-setting journey, showcasing the reliability and endurance of the hydrogen-powered locomotive.
This marks Stadler’s second Guiness World Record.
The first was awarded in 2021 for their battery-powered FLIRT Akku. Stadler achieved the longest distance traveled by a battery multiple unit at 224km in Germany.
The CEO of Stadler US, Martin Ritter, said, “The company is focused on the future of rail transport with alternative drive systems, and aims to continuously develop new technologies.”
“By using hydrogen as a clean energy source, we are actively contributing to environmental protection and shaping the sustainable and zero-emission travel of tomorrow,” Ritter concluded.
