Democratic socialist Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is receiving criticism for refusing to participate in a debate with her Democratic opponent, Marty Dolan.
Ocasio-Cortez is expected to win a fourth term in office. She will be competing against Marty Dolan, a retired Wall Street banker.
Dolan formally requested a debate to challenge her policies and platform. Dolan voiced his frustration over Ocasio-Cortez’s silence, criticizing her as being ‘AWOL’.
Dolan stated, “AOC is AWOL, which is no surprise.” According to the New York Post, he accused her of avoiding the debate by saying, “She’s ducking. She’s a chicken.”
Dolan said, “We should freeze illegal immigration.” Dolan also criticizes Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, expressing concerns about potential hikes in electricity expenses for the public.
Dolan insists that voters should have the opportunity to witness a debate highlighting the contrast between his moderate perspectives and Ocasio-Cortez’s labeled “radical” platform.
The electoral battle will cover the areas of The Bronx and Queens. Ocasio-Cortez holds a campaign fund of $6 million.
According to Dolan, “She’s chasing two rabbits – national fame and trying to serve her district. You can’t do both.”
He opposes Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement of New York’s sanctuary policy and instead advocates for a tougher stance on illegal immigration.
A social media user posted on Twitter, “She’d get schooled and doesn’t want the embarrassment.”
Another user posted, “No, he just isn’t worth her time. #NoScrubs.”
And a third user said, “AOC may win in her district of 770,000 but she is a big asset to Republicans nationally.”
