U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins claims that there were “at least 200” undercover federal agents embedded in the crowd during the January 6 Capitol riot, some of whom were “dressed as Trump supporters” and inside the Capitol before it was breached.

He suggested that the FBI’s involvement was deep, not just on January 6, but in the days and weeks prior.

FBI officials have not disclosed how many agents were embedded in the crowd, and FBI Director Christopher Wray did not deny the claim but testified that no FBI agents were involved in “the violence at the Capitol” on January 6.

“The FBI was not only involved in the actions on January 6th from within. They had, I suspect, over 200 agents embedded within the crowd, including agents or, as they would call it, human assets inside the Capitol dressed as Trump supporters before the doors were opened,” Higgins said.

“And when you track the text threads and the communications within those groups and find the origins of suggestions of potential violence or an active occupation of the Capitol on January 6th, you’ll find that those messages were led by members of the groups that ended up to be the FBI agents that had infiltrated the group,” Higgins added.

“So the FBI’s involvement was deep, not just on J6, but on the days and weeks and months prior.”

The NY Times said Rep. Higgins’ claim is “wild” and “baseless.” The outlet reported, “More than three years after the attack on Congress, a Republican subcommittee chairman offered a series of baseless and disproved claims about it, reflecting an effort on the right to falsify what occurred.”

“Even by a conspiracy theorist’s standards, the wild claims made by Representative Clay Higgins, Republican of Louisiana, stand out,” the Times published.

“The hard-right congressman, now in his fourth term in the House, has said that ‘ghost buses’ took agents provocateurs to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to instigate the riot. He has claimed that the federal government is waging a ‘civil war’ against Texas. And he has called the criminal charges against former President Donald J. Trump for mishandling classified documents a ‘perimeter probe from the oppressors,'” the outlet added.
