Representative Ilhan Omar is supporting the CROWN Act, which aims to ban hair discrimination at the federal level by preventing discrimination based on textures and styles historically associated with race like braids and locs.
This mirrors similar state laws. However, her advocacy for the legislation is receiving criticism.
“It’s long past time we end race-based hair discrimination,” Omar wrote. “Minnesota got this done. I was proud to co-lead the CROWN Act to do the same at the federal level.”

Some believe it sidetracks from important issues, with one user calling her tweet promoting it the “dumbest fucking post.”
Others question since when hair can be racist and accuse Omar of turning everything into racism.
“Since when is hair racist?” one X user wrote. “Lady you turn everything into a racism argument. What rights does your hair have that other type of hairs do? Hypocrite”
She is currently facing a potential second censure in Congress over remarks about college protests criticized as anti-Semitic.
