Former Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti accused another attorney involved in the hush money case against Trump, Keith Davidson, of lying.
Davidson had testified about negotiating a $130,000 payment from Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen to Daniels to stay quiet about an alleged affair with Trump.
Avenatti is currently serving prison time for unrelated financial crimes but had represented Daniels in lawsuits against Trump.
Despite his legal issues, Avenatti has criticized the judge’s gag order in Trump’s trial and offered to testify, while Daniels has dismissed Avenatti as a “lunatic.”
The ongoing legal battle surrounding Trump making the payments has political implications and could result in Trump facing jail time if convicted, though he intends to appeal.
Prosecutors also recently sought contempt charges against Trump for his comments about witnesses in the trial.
