The law firm representing the Mayor of Dolton, Illinois has requested to withdraw from several lawsuits involving the mayor and village due to non-payment.
In a letter to the mayor and board of trustees, the firm warned Dolton was becoming “uninsurable” and said they would not defend new cases or continue with existing ones from May 8th onward if unpaid.
“The Board recently voted to stop paying our legal bills,” the letter reads. “We are, of course, not required to work for free and decline to do so.”
Mayor Tiffany Henyard has faced over 20 lawsuits regarding her conduct and was recently named “America’s Worst Mayor” over questionable spending and alleged abuse of office.
She is also accused of covering up a sexual assault of a former employee by a village trustee during a trip to Las Vegas.
The FBI issued subpoenas to the village for records of 25 employees and officers as well as the village administrator who was charged with bankruptcy, as part of their investigation.
