Eric Adams
The FBI has seized New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ electronic devices as part of an investigation into potential illegal donations from the Turkish government during his 2021 campaign.
Adams’ attorney
Adams’ attorney stated that the mayor is committed to cooperating and has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Investigation
“After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly. In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators,” Adams’ attorney Boyd Johnson stated.
Cooperating
“The Mayor has been and remains committed to cooperating in this matter. On Monday night, the FBI approached the mayor after an event.
FBI’s request
“The Mayor immediately complied with the FBI’s request and provided them with electronic devices. The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation.”
Electronic devices
This action follows the FBI’s recent search of a campaign consultant’s home and the seizure of electronic devices and materials related to the investigation.
Fully cooperate
“As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation — and I will continue to do exactly that. I have nothing to hide,” Adams said.
Brooklyn construction
The probe also involves a Brooklyn construction company and a Washington, D.C. university with ties to both Turkey and Adams.
Financial scrutiny
Additionally, individuals in Adams’ circle have previously faced financial scrutiny, including his ex-buildings department commissioner being charged with taking bribes.
