A man was arrested after breaking into the Los Angeles residence of Mayor Karen Bass on Sunday morning while her family was home.
The 29-year-old man smashed a back window to gain entry but did not encounter the mayor or her family before being taken into custody.
No injuries were reported.
Bass thanked the LAPD for their quick response.
“The Mayor is grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect,” the mayor’s office stated.
“The English Tudor style house was built in 1921 by Swedish immigrants Leta and Paul Paulson who purchased an acre of land along the nearby, ever-growing Wilshire Boulevard, in Windsor Square,” the Getty House Foundation states.
“It was built by the same architects who designed the Egyptian and Chinese Theatres on Hollywood Boulevard.”
The historic Getty House, which has served as the mayoral residence for five decades, is surrounded by security cameras and a gate in the Windsor Square neighborhood.
Bass, who defeated Rick Caruso in the 2022 mayoral election, bolstered the LAPD budget in August while disagreeing with calls to “defund the police” during her congressional career.
