Tesla has recalled all 3,878 Cybertrucks delivered to customers due to an issue where the accelerator pedal cover could become dislodged and stuck, causing unintended acceleration.

Videos from customers experiencing this went viral, prompting Tesla to halt Cybertruck production and deliveries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration named the recall reason as “Unintended Acceleration from Trapped Pedal.”

Unlike most Tesla recalls which are software updates, this fix requires owners to take their Cybertruck to a service center to replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly.

An unapproved change introduced lubricant during pedal assembly that could cause the cover to not be fully retained.

According to the NHTSA, Tesla will “replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly, free of charge.”

Tesla first heard of the issue on March 31st then again on April 3rd, deciding on the recall on April 12th.

Notification letters will be sent and production vehicles will receive the fix to address unintended acceleration concerns.
