An AP/NORC poll found only 35% of Americans believe Donald Trump acted illegally related to the Manhattan District Attorney’s case against him, which began jury selection this week.

Trump faces 34 felony counts over hush money payments to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

“Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrats’ entire strategy to defeat President Trump is to confine him to a courtroom and unconstitutionally silence him throughout this sham Biden Trial,” Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “Crooked Joe Biden is a failed president running a losing campaign.”

“Polling shows the American people see right through the Stalinist tactics employed by Crooked Joe and his allies. President Trump and his team will continue fighting for truth in the courtroom, while working to earn votes on the campaign trail,” Leavitt added.

31% said his actions were unethical but not illegal, while 14% said he did nothing wrong.

Only 31% are very confident the prosecution is treating Trump fairly.

The poll also found half of Americans would consider Trump unfit for office if convicted in this case or his other legal battles.

It surveyed over 1,200 adults with a margin of error of 3.9%.

While the trial began, Trump still narrowly leads Joe Biden in 2024 polling averages.

“It’s very obvious political persecution,” independent voter Christopher Ruff said. “I’m no fan of Trump in any way, shape or form. Didn’t vote for him, never will. But it’s obviously all political.”
