An Arizona mother whose 26-year-old daughter died from a fentanyl overdose blamed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, saying his border policies have allowed fentanyl and other drugs from Mexico to flood into the U.S., poisoning and killing Americans.

She directly linked Mayorkas’ tenure overseeing border security to her daughter’s death from a counterfeit Percocet pill containing fentanyl made in Mexico.

Other families have similarly criticized Mayorkas as border crossings and drug deaths have increased.

“[Mayorkas] gets paid $200,000 tax dollars a year to kill our children, and one of those children was mine,” Josephine Dunn said.

The mother called for tighter restrictions and criticized Mayorkas for failing to do his job securing the border.

Her remarks came as House Republicans prepare impeachment articles against Mayorkas for his handling of the border crisis.
“My child did not overdose…. my child was poisoned by one-half of one Percocet tablet that was counterfeit. It was made in Mexico with products from China that poisoned my daughter. She did not overdose… she was murdered by products made in Mexico, brought into this country, that were welcomed in by Mayorkas and this administration,” Dunn said.

“He insists on allowing that border to be open. He has not completed his job as the head of Homeland Security. He was installed on February 2, 2021, and fentanyl is pouring across our border,” Dunn said.

“If he had done his job, fentanyl would not have crossed into this country as it has over these last three years in his position.”

Previously, she testified before Congress about her daughter’s death, blaming Mayorkas’ border policies and engaging in a tense exchange with a Democratic congressman.

“Every time I close my eyes, I see all of the tubes. When it’s quiet, I hear all the machines that were keeping her alive. In my humble opinion, Mr. Mayorkas’ border policy is partially responsible for my daughter’s death,” Dunn said.
