The star of the Amazon show Reacher, Alan Ritchson, expressed strong anti-police views in a recent interview.
He claimed police officers can “get away with murder all the time” and are not held accountable for their actions.
“Cops get away with murder all the time, and the fact that we can’t really hold them accountable for their improprieties is disturbing to me,” Ritchson said.
Ritchson has criticized the Breonna Taylor case before.
He advocated for major police reforms and said the standards for becoming a police officer, which he claimed involve less education than hairdressing, are too low.
“We should completely reform the way that we do it,” Ritchson said.
“I mean, you shouldn’t have to spend more time getting an education as a hairstylist than as a cop who’s armed with a deadly weapon. We should make it very hard for people to make mistakes or abuse power in our institutions,” he added.
However, most police departments in fact require extensive background checks, interviews, academy training and probation periods.
Ritchson also labeled Trump a “rapist” and the Catholic Church a haven for pedophiles.
Additionally, he opened up about struggling with bipolar disorder and attempting suicide as his acting career took off.
He said learning to accept his condition has been important.
“Being bipolar has wreaked havoc on my life many, many times. I would wish it away if I could, but it’s so much a part of who I am now that I should celebrate it a little or, at least, accept it,” Ritchson said.
