A Florida woman who stole and sold Ashley Biden’s diary was sentenced to one month in prison plus three months of home confinement.
Aimee Harris had pleaded guilty to conspiring to receive $20,000 from Project Veritas for personal items belonging to President Biden’s daughter.
“I do not believe I am above the law,” Harris said. “I’m a survivor of long-term domestic abuse and sexual trauma.”
According to prosecutors, Harris stole the diary and other belongings from a home where Ashley Biden had briefly lived, hoping to profit financially and damage the president’s reelection chances.
The judge criticized Harris’ actions as “despicable and serious” and that she abused the court system by missing multiple sentencing dates.
Harris stole “everything she could get her hands on” so she “could make as much money as she could,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman said.
“She wanted to damage Ms. Biden’s father,” he said.
While Harris apologized and cited a history of abuse and difficulties caring for her children, the judge imposed a prison term due to the severity of exploiting the daughter of a presidential candidate for political and monetary gain.
“She carries the shame and stigma of her actions,” defense attorney Anthony Cecutti said.
Harris is scheduled to begin her sentence in July.
