A migrant from Honduras who was released into the U.S. interior by the Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security has been sentenced for raping a teenage girl in Alabama.
In April, 29-year-old Grevi Geovani Rivera Zavala pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and was sentenced to ten years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl in a restaurant bathroom stall in 2023.
Zavala had arrived at the southern border in 2021 using a fake name and despite a criminal record was briefly detained and then released by DHS into the U.S.
He found work in construction in Prattville.
In May 2023, he forced the girl into the bathroom, ripped off her clothes, held her down and raped her.
“This rape never should have happened,” as DHS should not have released Zavala, Autauga County District Attorney CJ Robinson said.
After his sentence, he will be deported upon turning over to ICE.
