Sunny Hostin on The View program linked recent seismic and celestial events, including an earthquake, solar eclipse, and cicada emergence, to climate change.
However, her co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg pushed back, noting that earthquakes are unrelated to climate change and eclipses have predictable cycles.
“All those things together would maybe lead one to believe that either climate change exists or something is really going on,” Hostin said.
“Except earthquakes are not at the mercy of climate change. It’s underground. It can’t,” Joy Behar said.
“How about the warming of the planet?” Hostin asked.
“No, it happens,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “And the eclipse, they’ve known about the eclipse coming because eclipses happen, and they actually can say when these things are going to happen.”
Hostin also claimed her makeup artist reacted strangely to the quake, though others have faced criticism for similarly linking isolated natural phenomena to broader climate trends without scientific evidence.
“I read online that the earthquake epicenter was actually at Bedminster in New Jersey … Fun fact. So, it originated with Trump,” Alyssa Farah Griffin joked.
“I experienced my first earthquake in NJ. We never get earthquakes,” New Jersey Senate candidate Christina Amira Khalil wrote. “The climate crisis is real. The weirdest experience ever.”
