Republican Rep. Don Bacon indicated that the GOP-led impeachment investigation against President Biden is nearing an end, as the lawyers and committees involved say they have not found evidence of a specific crime that would constitute grounds for impeachment.

While Bacon felt it was important to investigate and make the facts public, especially in an election year, he acknowledged the lawyers have not uncovered a crime at this point.

The impeachment probe is “probably nearing the conclusion,” Rep. Don Bacon said. Lawyers “say, at this point, there’s not a specific crime that has been committed.”

“The lawyers and the committee that I talk to say there’s not a specific crime,” Bacon said. “And he’d need that for high crime or misdemeanor.”

“I think it merited an investigation to put the facts out, let the public look at it, make a determination,” he added. “And I think it’s good to be transparent, especially in an election year, so let’s put the facts on the table. But when I talked to the lawyers on the committee staff, they say, at this point, there is not a specific crime that’s been committed. And I think that’s important.”

Democrats have criticized the probe as a “fishing expedition” with no merit, as the Republican case has fallen apart.

This comes after a key witness was charged with lying about Russian intelligence involvement in spreading a story about Hunter Biden.

“I don’t know if it’s time, right now. But I do think we’re probably nearing the conclusion of this investigation.”
