At a hearing on the federal tax charges against Hunter Biden, the judge seemed more interested in facts than politics.
Judge Mark Scarsi did not make a decision on Hunter Biden’s multiple motions, including one claiming selective prosecution meant to target the Biden administration.
While defense argued the case was politically motivated, Scarsi said he would consider only facts and law, not aspersions between parties.
He gave the defense until April 17th to provide evidence beyond just the timeline of events supporting their claims.
“One of the big hurdles that this motion has is that it’s not filed with any evidence,” Scarsi said.
“We are just looking at the facts and law,” the judge said. “All of the aspersions cast off one another just roll off.”
If the motions are denied, Hunter Biden would go to trial in June, or could still make a deal with prosecutors.
The initial plea deal collapsed after drawing GOP criticism, leading to new felony charges against Hunter Biden that his lawyers argue were a result of political pressure.
“It’s a timeline,” Biden attorney Abbe Lowell said. “But it’s a juicy timeline.”
The judge sought more evidence than just the sequence of events.
