Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead at his grandmother’s home in Florida at age 35.
While no foul play is suspected, the cause of death remains under investigation.
Davis played for the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and briefly for the Buffalo Bills, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections during his career.
He notably retired abruptly at halftime of a Bills game in 2018.
After retiring he kept a low profile.
His 2012 trade to the Colts was famously captured on Hard Knocks, showing his raw reaction.
Davis left a lasting impression on those who knew him both in football and personally, receiving tributes from his former coach and childhood friend after his unexpected passing.
“We lost a great today!!! RIP TO Vontae Davis. Man, nothing but good memories of that dude in school!!” Davis’s former college coach Chester Frazier wrote.
“Extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis,” Colts’ owner Jim Irsay wrote. “A great guy, teammate, player. My prayers to Vontae’s family.”
