A recent poll of Palestinians found continued strong support for Hamas and its militant stance against Israel after five months of conflict, with 71% believing Hamas’ decision to launch attacks in October was correct and 64% thinking Palestinians will defeat Israel.
While pictures of devastation in Gaza are heartbreaking, the poll confirms that after years of negotiations and deterrence, huge numbers of Palestinians in Gaza remain firmly opposed to Israel’s existence as a Jewish state and prefer Hamas rule.
Given that Palestinians still back Hamas and would likely support further attacks, it is difficult to see what alternative Israel has other than taking military measures necessary for self-defense, whether reoccupying Gaza until Hamas is destroyed and terror capabilities eliminated, or leveraging cooperation from Arab states that normalized relations with Israel via the Abraham Accords to allow economic development if Hamas is first obliterated.
A poll released today shows that 71% of Palestinians support the Oct 7 massacre.
Is this really the time for a Palestinian state to be established?https://t.co/gcKJFA3Ev9 pic.twitter.com/xaWKVaQdY2
