A California judge pushed back on arguments to dismiss tax charges against Hunter Biden, saying there is no evidence they were politically motivated.

Hunter’s lawyer claimed prosecutors were selectively targeting the president’s son, but the judge saw no proof outside entities influenced the case.

Hunter faces up to 17 years for 9 tax violations including failing to report income and business expenses.

It’s one of two legal matters for Hunter, who is also a witness in an impeachment inquiry against his father Joe Biden.

“I don’t have transparency,” Lowell said. “What I have is the type of evidence that [a prosecutor] goes to a jury with every week and says ‘you can connect the dots.’”

“Is there evidence that pressure from outside entity influenced the prosecution?” Judge Mark Scarsi asked.

“It’s a timeline, but it’s a juicy timeline,” Lowell said.

While the judge has not ruled on dismissing the case, Republicans like Rep. James Comer believe more charges are warranted, claiming money laundering and foreign lobbying violations were overlooked.

Comer said this tax case is only the beginning and the broader investigations are not over.

“We believe there’s significantly more tax liability than what he has,” Comer said.

“We also know that there’s money laundering, we get that from all the suspicious activity reports. Most of the 170 suspicious activity reports at Treasury implied that the Bidens were money laundering and from what we can look at with their bank statements now and the research we’ve done, I can confirm it sure looks like money laundering to me,” Comer said.

“You also have the obvious violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and who was he lobbying for? He was lobbying for China, Russia and some of the worst countries on the world,” Comer said. “But also, he was lobbying his father, so that makes Joe Biden liable in Foreign Agent Registration Act liability. So we’ve got a lot of concerns here. This is the tip of the iceberg. I’m not surprised it happened before this week, but this case is far from being over.”

A ruling on dismissing the charges is expected in mid-April ahead of Hunter’s June 2024 trial.
