A poll of Republican voters in Wisconsin’s 8th congressional district found Alex Bruesewitz, an ally of former President Trump, leading the potential GOP primary field to replace retiring Rep. Mike Gallagher.
The Cygnal survey showed Bruesewitz, a political outsider, with 36% support, ahead of state senator Andre Jacque at 15% and Gallagher’s preferred successor Roger Roth at 12%.
“I am humbled and honored by the support I am receiving,” Bruesewitz said. “The great patriots of Wisconsin’s 8th district deserve a Representative who will always put them first!”
64% said they wanted a non-career politician. Bruesewitz expressed gratitude for the support.
The poll also indicated Gallagher’s approval rating lagged Trump’s in the district.
Gallagher faced criticism for not backing the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and shortly after announced his retirement, giving Republicans a smaller majority in the House.
