Former President Donald Trump criticized NBC News leadership as “weak” for firing Ronna McDaniel, the former Republican National Committee chairwoman, after on-air personalities objected to her hiring due to her past support for Trump.
McDaniel’s termination from her contributor contract could prove costly for NBC, as she is reportedly owed her full two-year, $300,000 annual salary since she did not breach terms.
“These Radical Left Lunatics are CRAZY, and the top people at NBC ARE WEAK. They were BROKEN and EMBARRASSED by LOW RATINGS, HIGHLY OVERPAID, ‘TALENT.’ BRING BACK FREE AND FAIR PRESS,” Trump wrote.
McDaniel is exploring legal options beyond recouping the monetary value of the contract.
Trump defended McDaniel, saying she only lasted two days at NBC despite accommodating what they wanted to hear.
“It leaves her [McDaniel] in a very strange place, it’s called NEVER NEVERLAND, and it’s not a place you want to be,” Trump wrote. “She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear.”
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between mainstream media and conservative voices like McDaniel, who gained her position because of ties to Trump.
A recent poll found six in ten Americans believe the establishment media are responsible for spreading misinformation.
