According to unofficial Border Patrol reports, migrant apprehensions at the southwest border surpassed one million within the first six months of Fiscal Year 2024, putting the administration on pace to exceed two million for the third consecutive year.

The Tucson sector led all southwest border sectors with over 301,000 apprehensions from October 2023 to March 2024, a 167% increase over the same period last year.

The Del Rio and San Diego sectors followed with around 184,000 and 153,000 apprehensions respectively, while El Paso reported about 121,000.

While Del Rio saw a slight drop, San Diego increased by 76%. Apprehensions during the first half of FY2024 nearly matched the record-setting pace of FY2022.

The Swanton sector on the northern border also saw a 110% rise in apprehensions compared to the previous year’s first six months.
