Senator J.D. Vance and Representative Byron Donalds, both allies of Donald Trump, strongly criticized the New York fraud case against the former president as politically motivated.
After an appeals court lowered the bond amount Trump was required to post, Vance said the Biden administration wanted to bankrupt Trump’s family and called it “the biggest assault on democracy.”
“The Biden administration wants Trump to die in jail and they want to bankrupt his family. It is the biggest assault on democracy we’ve ever seen. If you’re too cowardly to call it out, you’re not ready for his moment in American politics,” Vance said.

Donalds similarly labeled New York’s attempted seizure of Trump’s assets as “shocking, tyrannical, and profoundly un-American,” arguing it weaponized justice against political opposition.
Both allies portrayed the case as an egregious attempt to target Trump for his political views.
“The egregious attempted seizure of President Trump’s assets for a victimless “crime” will forever taint the legal system of New York and sets a dangerous new precedent for our nation,” Rep. Byron Donalds wrote.
“Weaponizing justice to forcibly seize the livelihood of political opposition is shocking, tyrannical, and profoundly un-American.”
