Biden’s projection for immigrants
A recent report has discovered that the Biden administration’s estimates of the immigrant population in the U.S. are outdated because of the significant rise in illegal immigrants entering the country through the southern border.
Immigrant population
The total immigrant population, including both legal and illegal individuals, has reached a historic high of 51.4 million, constituting 15.5% of the total population as of February.
Increase of 6.4 million
This marks an increase of 6.4 million since President Biden assumed office. The report suggests that over half of this increase is likely attributed to illegal immigration, although legal immigrants still account for about three-quarters of the entire foreign-born population.
Previously forecasted
In contrast, the Census Bureau had previously forecasted that the foreign-born segment of the population would not hit 15.5% until 2039.
Immigration is so high
“The scale of immigration is so high that it appears to have made the Census Bureau population projections, published in November of last year, obsolete,” the report says.
Latin America
“Most of the increase is due to immigration from Latin America, which has jumped 4.2 million since Biden took office, according to the report. Immigration from the Indian subcontinent has also spiked 819,000, and immigration from the Middle East is up 654,000,” Fox News reported.
172,000 foreign-born individuals
Currently, approximately 172,000 foreign-born individuals enter the country every month, which is around four times higher than the monthly influx during the Trump administration.
Increase in illegal migrants
The educational attainment of new migrants has decreased, partly due to the increase in illegal migrants.
Notable shift
A notable shift is seen with 44% of adults who have arrived in the last two years having education levels not surpassing high school, compared to 29% in 2018.
Immigrant workers
Furthermore, the number of immigrant workers is on the rise while the count of American-born workers is declining.
31 million
A total of 31 million immigrant workers are now part of the workforce, exceeding the number in February 2020 by over three million and constituting a record 19% of all workers.
Since 1970
Over the years, since 1970, the proportion of the population that is foreign-born has tripled. Just since 2000, it has increased by 40%.
American society
“The enormous scale of immigration over the past three years has implications for nearly every aspect of American society, including public coffers, the labor market, schools, hospitals, and the balance of political power, to say nothing of whether we can assimilate this many people,” the report says.
