ABC has given a pilot order to “Shifting Gears,” a new sitcom starring and executive produced by Tim Allen.
In the project, Allen will play a widowed classic car restoration shop owner whose life changes when his estranged daughter and her kids move in with him.
The comedy extends Allen’s long relationship with ABC and Disney, having previously starred in the hits “Home Improvement” and “Last Man Standing” on the network.

Executive producers Mike and Julie Thacker Scully have extensive television writing and producing experience, including on “The Simpsons.”
If picked up to series, “Shifting Gears” would mark Allen’s potential return to ABC sitcoms after the cancellation of “Last Man Standing” in 2017, continuing his career playing comedic family patriarchs.
“Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years. #lastmanstanding,” Allen wrote at the time of the cancellation.
