Jared Kushner proposed developing Gaza’s waterfront property and relocating Palestinians to the arid Negev desert as a solution to the conflict.
He claimed the waterfront could be valuable if money went to development rather than tunnels and munitions.
“Gaza’s waterfront property could be very valuable to—if people would focus on building up livelihoods,” Kushner said.
“I would just bulldoze something in the Negev, I would try to move people in there, I know that that won’t be the popular thing to do, but I think that that’s a better option to do, so that you can go in and finish the job,” he said.
When questioned, Kushner said he didn’t know if Israeli officials supported displacing Palestinians but was speculating from Miami Beach.
Critics argue the Negev is oppressively hot with little infrastructure, while Kushner questioned if much was left of Gaza and deemed a Palestinian state a “super bad idea.”
“I am not sure there’s much left of Gaza at this point,” Kushner said.
“I’m sitting in Miami Beach right now, and I’m looking at the situation and I’m thinking: what would I do if I was there?” Kushner said.
His comments came as the UN warned Gaza faced famine from Israel’s ongoing offensive.
