Elon Musk criticized MacKenzie Scott’s philanthropic efforts, calling her a “super rich ex-wife” out to destroy Western civilization.
However, Scott has continued making large donations, recently announcing $640 million would be given to 361 nonprofits, more than double her original $250 million pledge.
“‘Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouse’ should filed be listed among ‘Reasons that Western Civilization died,'” Musk wrote.
Lever for Change assisted Scott by expanding the pool of organizations receiving between $1-2 million each for work supporting underserved groups.
“DEI is just another word for racism. Shame on anyone who uses it,” Musk said previously.
While Musk has slammed Scott and efforts like diversity initiatives, she has not publicly responded and says the selected nonprofits were evaluated by peers.
“It’s safe to say that MacKenzie [ahem] Scott is not exactly a big fan of her ex-husband. Unfortunately, a lot of others are getting caught in the crossfire,” Musk said.
Scott’s no-strings attached donations contrast with most philanthropists’ reporting requirements.
Her 2022 giving totaled nearly $2 billion to causes like gender justice and immigrant services.
“This open call award helps us take our fight for justice and equity to the next level, continuing our work to dismantle the legal, structural, and cultural barriers that contribute to gender inequity,” Megan Peterson, the executive director for the nonprofit advocacy group Gender Justice, stated.
