A New York Times/Siena College poll showed rising support for Trump among minority voters concerning Democrats.
The poll indicated that significant numbers of black and Hispanic voters believe Trump’s policies benefited them more than Biden’s.
On CNN, host Laura Coates pressed Democrat Hakeem Jeffries on this trend, questioning whether Biden has done enough to improve his standing.
“Is that alarming to you? That nothing that the Biden campaign has said or done to this point has brought that at least closer than it is right now in this polling?” Coates asked.
“The Biden administration has an incredible track record of support in making sure that it is working at all times to build an economy from the middle out and the bottom up as opposed to the top down,” Jeffries said.
More broadly, the poll revealed voters preferring Trump’s record to Biden’s – the first time since 1912 voters could directly compare two former presidents.
Forty percent said Trump’s policies helped them personally versus 18% for Biden, while 43% said Biden hurt versus 23% for Trump.
This preference extended even to demographics targeted by Democrats, suggesting economic issues strongly influence views.
The numbers reflect a common historical pattern in which ex-presidents see increased approval after leaving office, a phenomenon also experienced by Trump.
