Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker delivered a powerful message supporting fatherhood in response to a question about gun control after a shooting at the team’s victory parade.
When asked about gun control, Butker said “strong fathers” are needed more than new laws, explaining that degenerate violence occurs due to a lack of male leadership teaching youth non-violence.
Butker, a father himself, emphasized fathers being examples through his foundation combatting human trafficking.
The shooting involved two men and two juveniles being charged with murder.
“At the end of the day, this is degenerate violence and it should not be occurring,” Butker said.
He added, “I think we need strong fathers in the home. I think we need men that are leading, that are setting good examples, that are teaching the young men in our society that violence is not the way to handle our disputes.”
“Many, many children were injured. A beautiful young lady was killed over someone getting offended and turning to violence to handle that dispute,” Butker added.
“It’s so sad. I don’t think guns are the issue. I think we need fathers in the home that are being great examples for our youth.”
Butker has also advocated pro-life views, believing aborted children to be victims without a voice.
“The unborn, to me, are the greatest victims of our society,” he said. “They don’t have a voice. They don’t necessarily look like humans. They’re not very big. They can’t fight for themselves. There’s not a lot of people that are fighting for them.”
“And I just think it’s a great atrocity that’s occurring in this country with massacring the unborn. I felt like there’s no better place to send this message than to the masses and to represent the unborn at a place like the White House where unfortunately their voice is not heard.”
Other football figures like coach Jim Harbaugh and Lou Holtz have similarly voiced conservative views on issues.
Butker’s response highlighted the role of fathers in curbing violence and supporting traditional family values.
