NBA center Bismack Biyombo of the Oklahoma City Thunder collapsed during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers due to dehydration from fasting, which he has done for 15 years as part of his Christian faith.
The next day he assured fans on social media that he was fine and grateful for the experience.
“Feeling blessed & grateful for everyone’s love & concern. A big thank you to my teammates for their understanding. All good here, just a bit of dehydration, but ready for tomorrow’s game!” he wrote.

Biyombo explained that fasting has been his way of connecting spiritually with God for over a decade, and while this was the first time collapsing, he is grateful to be well.
“Fasting has been my spiritual journey for over 15 years, thankful for every lesson. #God,” he said.
“Each and every person have their own way of connecting with God,” he said. “And obviously for me I’ve been fasting for 15 years, and that has been my way of connecting with God. I never had a problem. It’s just that yesterday happened to be the first time. And I’m just grateful — I’m just grateful that, you know, I’m well.”
Though the collapse was alarming to witness, Biyombo used it as an opportunity on social media to thank well-wishers and praise God, with his post reaching thousands.
Supporters noted that God used Biyombo’s temporary weakness to spiritually reach many through him, bringing good even from an unexpected event.
