President Biden acknowledged during a recent interview that he had campaigned from his basement in 2020 due to the pandemic.
When questioned by Special Counsel Robert Hur, Biden said that with COVID kicking in, critics had said he should go back to campaigning from his basement.
So he set up a studio in Delaware where he could appear on television from and do campaign activities remotely.
“The pandemic had started to kick in, and so, I knew, if you notice, a — and I don’t blame them. They, they — the quick criticism of me, ‘Biden should go back in his tunnel and campaign from in his basement again,'” Biden said.
“But I — what we did, we set up a theater in Delaware where I could, I could go on television from, I could appear, I could do — and so I used — I needed some of that furniture in Delaware. And so that’s what I picked out to send to Delaware, for that reason, because we were campaigning out of our basement,” he said.
Hur said, “I see.”
Biden said, “— basically, kind of.”
Some liberals are now encouraging Biden to employ a similar strategy for 2024, staying off the physical campaign trail. (Trending: New Bombshell FBI Docs Blow Trump Case Wide Open)
Show host Bill Maher joked that one misstep could be problematic for Biden on the trail given his age.
And CNN’s Van Jones argued more seriously that Biden should remain “hidden” and not be a major public campaign presence himself, as he does not inspire confidence as his own messenger according to Jones.
“If I were Biden, I would stay hidden,” CNN’s Van Jones said. “And I’ll tell you why: He doesn’t inspire confidence. He’s not a great messenger for himself.”
This follows Biden admitting he had effectively campaigned from his basement during the pandemic-impacted 2020 election.
