Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has endorsed former President Donald Trump for president in 2024, praising Trump’s record on border security, leadership, taxes, and costs of living.
Youngkin contrasted this with challenges under President Biden like inflation and high costs.
“It’s time to unite around strong leadership and policies that grow our great nation, not four more years of President Biden,” Youngkin said. “Voters in the Commonwealth and across the country have spoken loudly for President Donald J. Trump, and I endorse him for President of the United States.”
Glenn Youngkin's endorsement of Donald Trump is a slap in the face to millions of Virginians.
Our Commonwealth rejected Trump's bigotry in 2016 and 2020 – and will do it again in November.
And, in 2025, we are going to replace Glenn Youngkin and take our Commonwealth back. https://t.co/VmFZrFzak3

As a successful businessman-turned-politician, Youngkin’s endorsement is seen as boosting Trump’s campaign particularly in the swing state of Virginia.
While Youngkin kept Trump at arm’s length in his own gubernatorial campaign, focusing more on economic and education issues, his backing could galvanize Republicans and independents, leveraging his popularity in Virginia.
“Thank you to Governor Glenn Youngkin,” Trump wrote. “I look forward to working with this fantastic Governor to WIN THE GREAT STATE OF VIRGINIA ON NOVEMBER 5th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Some Republicans had hoped Youngkin would run himself as a Trump alternative, but Democratic gains in Virginia ended that prospect. The endorsement drew criticism from Democrats.
