Nicolas Cage suggested there will be no third National Treasure film from Disney, criticizing the company for no longer producing fun and agenda-free entertainment as it did 20 years ago when the original was released.

When asked about returning for a sequel, Cage said “if you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney” implying their focus has shifted.

“Here we go! See, you’re the one that brings these things up and they go out and they eclipse everything else,” Cage said.

“No, there is no National Treasure 3.”

“If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there,” he said.

Disney’s TV reboot Edge of History centered on an illegal immigrant youth searching for family history, drawing criticism for injecting “wokeness” and politicizing the franchise, which was beloved for its apolitical nature.

“The main character is an illegal alien who can’t trust the police because she might get deported. This is a 100% real storyline,” Outback’s David Hookstead wrote. “Disney took a GREAT film series, and destroyed it with wokeness.”

“Shameful.”

Cage’s comments reflect a view that Disney has moved away from simple entertainment toward messaging, as seen with the direction taken with the National Treasure property.
