A recent 8-day human trafficking sting operation in Florida led to the arrest of 228 individuals.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office operation began in late February and resulted in over 200 arrests connected to prostitution, offering prostitution, or aiding prostitutes.
Several local law enforcement agencies assisted.
13 potential human trafficking victims were identified among 66 arrested prostitutes.
Detectives filed over 350 felony and misdemeanor charges against suspects with criminal histories totaling over 2,000 prior offenses.
21 of those arrested were suspected to be in the country illegally from various Latin American and Caribbean nations.
“21 of the arrested are suspected of being in the country illegally; Those who are here illegally are from Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela,” the sheriffs office stated.
Sheriff Grady Judd held a press conference detailing the operation called “Operation March Sadness 2024″ and displayed a sign linking federal policy to illegal immigration and crime.
Video from a hotel room showed individuals involved in the sting.
“We had two or three coaches and a teacher. We had a former detention deputy, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Those people should know better,” Sheriff Grady Judd said.
