FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh faced heckling from protesters while marching in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade days after vowing to investigate firefighters who booed Attorney General Letitia James.

Demonstrators held signs with Kavanagh’s face on a donkey and yelled “You suck” and “Firefighters are the hunters.”

Some cheered for Donald Trump.

The heckling comes after FDNY members booed James and FDNY officials said they would identify those responsible, though later walked back using the word “hunt.”

“I recommend they come forward. I have been told by the Commissioner it will be better for them if they come forward, and we don’t have to hunt them down,” FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens wrote.

“It was not meant to be taken literally and was never uttered by anyone on the executive staff,” Hodgens wrote regarding his own words. “Specifically, there was not, and is not, an investigation into members booing.”

Hodgens said “allegations of other violations of department regulations” were the problem.

Kavanagh apologized for the booing, frustrating some firefighters who felt their free speech rights were upheld and criticized her politicization of the department by inviting James to speak.

“I wasn’t there but if I was I would have yelled out Trump’s name because that is my constitutional freedom of speech. I don’t need the commissioner to apologize for my American rights,” an unnamed Brooklyn firefighter stated.
