President Biden will send over $100 million in federal aid to New York City, a sanctuary jurisdiction, to help cover costs associated with caring for migrants.
The funds had been allocated last year by Democratic congressional leaders from New York but were held up in paperwork.
Now that NYC Mayor Eric Adams has provided required budget documents and received a waiver to increase hotel housing reimbursements from 10% to 15% of funds, the aid is finally being released.
Adams has sued bus companies for dropping migrants off in NYC without covering costs, which he says will total $3.5 billion from 2022-2023 to house, feed and clothe nearly 200,000 migrants released into the US interior under Biden.
The taxpayer money will help NYC foot the bill, including luxury hotel stays, for caring for these migrants.
