Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis faced a potential conflict of interest in continuing to lead the Trump investigation due to her previous romantic relationship with a prosecutor on the case, Nathan Wade.

A judge ruled that while no actual conflict was found, the appearance of impropriety required either Willis’ recusal or Wade’s removal.

Wade subsequently resigned from the case to allow it to move forward more quickly.

“Although the court found that ‘the defendants failed to meet their burden of proving that the District Attorney acquired an actual conflict of interest,’ I am offering my resignation in the interest of democracy, in dedication to the American public, and move this case forward as quickly as possible,” Wade wrote.

Willis thanked Wade for his “professionalism and dignity you have shown over the last 865 days, as you have endured threats against you and your family, as well as unjustified attacks in the media and in court on your reputation as a lawyer.”

While the judge’s ruling avoided forcing Willis’ recusal, a source close to Trump’s team expressed mixed views, saying the relationship issues could still lead to appeals and transfer efforts but that proceeding with evidence could result in a stunning victory against the prosecution.

“While Judge McAfee’s ruling is light on principles and very likely to result in interlocutory appeal and even motions to transfer the case to a jurisdiction that hasn’t been tainted by Fani racist statements,” the source stated.

“Proceeding in the case is very likely to allow a much more stunning victory against the regime when the election fraud evidence is presented,” the source added.

Wade’s resignation appears to have resolved the immediate conflict of interest concern raised regarding Willis continuing to oversee the investigation into Trump’s alleged election interference.
