Tim Allen is set to return to ABC for a new comedy pilot titled “Shifting Gears.” The 70-year-old actor/comedian will star in and executive produce the multicamera project.
In the pilot, Allen plays a widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop whose life is upended when his estranged daughter and her kids move in.

Allen previously starred in the hit ABC sitcom “Last Man Standing” for six years until its surprise cancellation in 2017, after which it moved to Fox.
He’s best known for his earlier role on “Home Improvement” in the 1990s.
Allen most recently starred in and executive produced the Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses,” a spinoff of the 1994 Christmas film in which he played a man who becomes Santa.
Variety noted Allen’s new ABC pilot underscores his continued strong relationship with the Disney-backed network.
