A 20-year-old Venezuelan woman, Edgarlis Vegas, who arrived in the US about three months ago, has been arrested and charged as the ninth suspect in a January attack by a migrant mob on two NYPD officers in Times Square.
Surveillance footage allegedly showed Vegas kicking one officer and hitting his back, causing shoulder and back pain.
She changed her story about involvement twice when questioned.
A judge deemed her a flight risk given her recent arrival from Venezuela likely through the southern border, and ordered $25,000 cash bail.
Her attorney sought release without bail.
The other eight suspects charged are also Venezuelan migrants. Two are members of Venezuela’s violent Tren de Aragua gang.
