Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is currently involved in a legal dispute over a new Texas law allowing police to arrest migrants for illegal entry, with the Justice Department urging the Supreme Court to block it.
Republicans generally back Abbott’s efforts to take immigration enforcement into their own hands, believing the federal government isn’t doing enough.
