A Colombian national apprehended by Border Patrol in Arizona in 2022 was released into the U.S. with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
The following month, he was arrested and convicted of indecent assault in Massachusetts.
In 2024, ICE agents arrested him near his residence and he remains in custody pending deportation.
The arrest was part of a nationwide operation that resulted in 275 foreign nationals with sex crime convictions being taken into custody.
An ICE official stated the individual not only broke immigration laws but victimized a Massachusetts resident, and they will continue prioritizing public safety by removing threats from communities.
“This Colombian sex offender not only broke our immigration laws; he victimized a Massachusetts resident,” ICE official Todd Lyons stated. “We cannot allow such threats to roam the streets of our New England communities. ERO Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing such threats from our neighborhoods.”
The case highlights the risk posed by the release of apprehended migrants into the interior.
