A Boeing whistleblower who alleged quality and safety issues in the company’s production of 787 Dreamliners has been found dead in an apparent suicide.
John Barnett had worked at Boeing for 32 years before retiring in 2017 and raising concerns over rushed assembly compromising safety.
He specifically claimed defective parts were installed and proper tracking procedures not followed, with the FAA confirming some of his arguments.
Barnett was deposed last week as part of an ongoing whistleblower lawsuit against Boeing and was found dead in his vehicle at a hotel parking lot on March 9th at age 62.
His lawyer called it a “tragic” development, while Boeing expressed condolences but did not acknowledge the allegations regarding their production practices and oversight.
“We are saddened by Mr. Barnett’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends,” the company said.
The circumstances will likely raise questions given Barnett’s central role in exposing issues now under legal review.
