Sen. Katie Britt’s response to President Biden’s State of the Union address has faced intense criticism for misleadingly portraying decades-old human trafficking events as occurring under Biden.
Britt described a graphic story that a former reporter identified as actually happening in Mexico in 2004-2008, before Biden was president.
Britt was mocked on SNL and at the Oscars for this misleading account, undermining the Republican rebuttal.
“I saw a glimpse of the Republican senator’s response to my speech, and I think she’s gonna help me more than anything else I can say here,” SNL actor Mikey Day said, acting as Biden.
“Rest assured, every detail about it is real, except the year, where it took place, and who was president when it happened,” Scarlett Johansson mocked, acting as Britt.
“Tonight, I’ll be auditioning for the part of Scary Mom,” Johansson said.
“Emma Stone played an adult woman with the brain of a child, like the lady who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union on Thursday night,” Jimmy Kimmel said when hosting the Oscars.
Her performance has been seen as a major embarrassment that could significantly damage her political career trajectory.
“She embarrassed herself, she embarrassed the Republicans, and she embarrassed women,” Megyn Kelly said. “It was a disgrace. I was horrified by her performance, and I really think it’s going to take her years to rebound.”
“The truth is, and the media knows that they’re not covering it, that human trafficking has gone up under President Biden,” Britt argued.
Well it looks like Jonathan M. Katz has caught @SenKatieBritt in a pretty significant lie. pic.twitter.com/rbRa17dL2L
