The Biden White House has begun referring to border crossers and illegal aliens as “newcomers” or “people who are in the country,” terms that conflict with federal immigration law.
A fact sheet promoting Senate legislation to preserve catch and release used those phrases to describe billions in funding for cities accepting such individuals.
Earlier, a similar press release touted money for “newcomers.”
The administration aims to remove references to “illegal aliens” or “immigrants” from DHS, instead mandating terms like “noncitizens” and “undocumented individuals” that Secretary Mayorkas said “speak to the importance of respecting dignity.”
However, “alien” is defined in immigration law as a foreign national residing in the U.S., though Democrats have sought to ban its use in federal statutes.
